“Animali Notturni” is the Austro-Italian project created by double bassist Marco Stagni. It evokes the spirits of the night, dwells in the darkest folds of human nature and oscillates between instinct and ratio, excess and minimalism.

As enigmatic as the mysterious world of nocturnal creatures. And I’m not just talking about animals that live in the woods, but also about people who are active at night. This must be what it would have sounded like when sitting in some grungy New York jazz club many years ago. While enjoying a glass of best booze in the completely smoke-filled room and drumming with your fingers on the table-top in time to the music, you hear muffled noises from a back room where some mobster is probably beating his victim’s face to pulp.
