G.F. Haas "in vain"   Ensemble Windkraft

Georg Friedrich Haas’ composition for 24 instruments is already a classic in 21st century ensemble music. As in subsequent pieces (e.g. his 3rd string quartet “In iij. Noct.”), Haas works with the intensity of light including its absence. In ‘in vain’, it was dismay at the formation of the Conservative-Freedomite coalition government in Austria in 2000 which led me to make music with a formal structure showing the return of something thought to have been overcome.
