Ewiges Licht Cantando Admont
CARDOSO, FURRER (UA),
REYES-MACAHIS (UA), TERRANOVA (UA)
Cantando Admont take us to the golden age (Idade de Ouro) of Portuguese music. In 1580, the Habsburg Philip II of Spain inherited the Portuguese crown and encouraged the arts to flourish with composers such as Pedro de Cristo (c. 1550-1618), Duarte Lôbo (c. 1565-1646), Filipe de Magalhães (c. 1571-1652) and Manuel CARDOSO (1566-1650). Few people know them today. In his works, CARDOSO combined old and new stylistic elements to create a personal, expressive style; five volumes of sacred a cappella music have survived.
Commissioned works by Daniela TERRANOVA, Feliz Anne REYES-MACAHIS and Beat FURRER are integrated into Manuel CARDOSO’s Missa pro defunctis – as an echo, contrast and complement. Building on CARDOSO’s polyphony, these world premieres take a look at the eternal light and the Passion in the 21st century.
