Zoë Demoustier, dancer and choreographer, is no stranger to Tyrol. In 2024 she moved and fascinated her audience with What Remains, a work about life and transience. In her first solo piece Unfolding an Archive she investigates what news really is, how journalism works and how images are employed to give reality a certain framing. The daughter of a photojournalist, she bases the work on her father’s archive, a visual record of conflicts and disasters in about a hundred countries (including Afghanistan, Lebanon, Haiti, Liberia and Syria). At a second, much more personal level, Zoë Demoustier at the same time explores her own biography: What has my father’s occupation done to me? She links private memories and global images. Dance, performance, sounds and music transform the legacy of the photographs into a multi-layered study of memory, violence and proximity.
