Opening: Da Pacem SCARLATTI
SCIARRINO et.al.
Klangforum & Schola Heidelberg, ensemble aisthesis
Ltg: Walter Nußbaum
The opening concert of the Easter Festival Tyrol 2025 (featuring Klangforum Heidelberg for the second time) offers a combination of old and new, and a mix of sorrow, pain and hope. The music ranges from the 16th to the 21st century, from Cipriano de Rore, Orlando di Lasso and Domenico Scarlatti to Wolfgang Rihm and Salvatore Sciarrino.
One of the highlights will be Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater, which has a unique spatial concept and dramatic sweep that give it a special place among his compositions. The work is an impulsive, sensual rendering of Mary’s suffering under the cross. Another unique experience will be the Austrian premiere of Due Cori by the Italian Salvatore Sciarrino, one of the foremost composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. In his latest work, he makes use of Aeschylus’ Agamemnon tragedy and Cassandra to examine the impermanence of human fate.
The programme also pairs the two masterpieces Lagrime di San Pietro (Saint Peter’s Tears), which di Lasso composed in the year of his death, with Mit geschlossenem Mund (With closed mouth) presented in homage to Wolfgang Rihm, who died in 2024. Di Lasso’s music overflows with emotion and artistry, while Rihm conducts a wonderful dialogue with quiet. The concert concludes with an appeal for peace by Cipriano de Rore.
