Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom is a film loosly based on Marquis de Sade’s book of the same name and Dante’s Divine Comedy. In the time of the fascist Republic of Salo, four wealthy and corrupt Italian libertines kidnap eighteen teenagers and subject them to four months of extreme violence, murder, sadism, sexual and mental torture. With this film Pasolini explores political corruption, consumerism, capitalism, nihilism, morality, abuse of power, social darwinism, sadism, sexuality and fascism.
