Amour Michael Haneke
Everyone grows old. Decay in old age is a subject that affects everyone at some point. And yet society chooses to banish from view everything related to old age; it all takes place behind locked doors. That is terrible; it is something art must concern itself with.
Michael Haneke’s film Amour is about decay: the decay of a human being and a life-long love, the love between Anne and Georges. The couple’s long practised routine is abruptly interrupted when Anne has a first stroke that makes her a nursing case from one day to the next. The couple quickly realise that this is the beginning of the end. Georges cares for the love of his life with selfless devotion until he reaches his limits.
