When the Arabs still Danced celebrates a time in which neither singing, dancing nor the sensualities of the actors on the screen were subject to restriction. Based on his own past and his affinity with European dance, the Franco-Tunisian choreographer scrutinises his original culture. He reverses established gender roles by sending four male dancers onto the terrain that Oriental dance ascribes to women. A bitter-sweet journey from the history of Tunisia to the present time.
