Come Back Again (2025)   Susanne Kirnbauer, Doris Uhlich

Come Back Again is a performance about the courage to rediscover one’s body and venture onto new paths in later years in life. Following Spitze (2008) and Come Back (2012), Doris Uhlich continues her collaboration with Susanne Kirnbauer, the former principal solo dancer at the Vienna State Opera. In her mid-forties, Kirnbauer had to end her career as an active ballet dancer. On the ballet stage there is no place for an ageing body – especially if it is female. Now in her eighties, Kirnbauer joins up with Doris Uhlich to explore ways of transforming her strength and energy – through dance, voice and performance – beyond the ballet steps that she can no longer execute. In a limbo of change and rearrangement, two dancers from two different generations come together to revisit the past, illuminate the present and conduct futuristic archaeology.
