HMADCHA Anania Danses
Taoufiq Izeddiou
The new piece by one of Morocco’s most important choreographers is the first in a trilogy. Inspired by the rituals of the Moroccan Hmadcha brotherhood, it combines tradition and contemporary dance, rhythm and movement. Hmadcha is not only the title but also the name of a 400-year-old Sufi community, whose ceremonies involve music, poetry and rhythm and culminate in a collective state of trance. With his pieces, Izeddiou pursues his interest in spirituality beyond religion, with a focus on community, vulnerability and resilience.
