Näss (2018) Cie Massala
Choreography: Fouad Boussouf
Näss – Arabic for people – brings together bodies, choreographic styles, cultures, musical genres, and tradition and modernity. With indomitable power, seven men radiate an infectious energy on stage. To the sounds of electro music and North African drums, which never let go of the audience, they hurl themselves with full commitment into the stirring acrobatic choreography. Fouad Boussouf builds a bridge between his native Morocco and his adopted home in France. From North African folk dance, urban dance and hip-hop to Gnawa music, history and culture are moulded into a multi-layered performance. Out of these diverse currents Boussouf creates a new language, an indissoluble combination. Näss is spectacular and intoxicating. The performance bewitches the audience with an irresistible desire to dance.
