The most famous Passion music in German and western culture includes works by Bach, Händel and Telemann as well as Charpentier, Delalande and Scarlatti. Over the centuries, however, wonderful masterpieces have been created which are largely unknown today.

Together with mezzo-soprano Tanja Vogrin, Hopkinson Smith, a pioneer of the lute and Early Music and one of our most longstanding contributors, will be performing a selection of this rare Passiontide music including Monteverdi, Frescobaldi’s Al pie de la gran croce, and Bartolomeo Tromboncino’s and Ruimonte’s Lamentaciones.
