I’m an eye. A mechanical eye. I, the machine, show you a world the way only I can see it. I free myself for today and forever from human immobility. (Dziga Vertov)
In this pioneering experiment, the Russian filmmaker shows the movements of a big city and life in it in a montage involving three cities: Moscow, Kiev and Odessa. For Dziga Vertov, the silent movie was meant to show life as it is – without a narrative thread or staging, simply through montage, as everything else would be a falsification and would underestimate the audience.

In collaboration with the Austrian Film Museum.
